Sugilite is a rare cyclosilicate mineral, best known for its intense purple color and limited supply from the Wessels Mine in South Africa. Fine material is increasingly scarce, especially in solid, high-saturation pieces.
This cabochon displays rich, vivid purple with strong saturation. I decided to go for size, leaving some of the manganese matrix to create an elongated picture stone with plenty of contrast.
It measures 51 x 20 x 4.5 mm and weighs 50.49 CTs
